Year 5 Website update – Summer 2

Literacy

This term, year 5 has been reading one of the key class texts for year 5. 5A has enjoyed Stormbreaker, 5T has tucked their teeth into Kensuke’s kingdom, 5C has been enjoying boy at the back of the class and finally 5CB has been reading and enjoying Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s stone. Children have been drawing summary pictures in their books, creating their own boat, rucksack, gadget or magical broomstick alongside the Spanish visitors and acting out scenes from the chapters of their book. It has been amazing seeing their love for reading and thinking about how books are adapted for films.

   

 

 

Topic- DT

This term in DT, Year 5 were lucky to have Juniper come in to host a cooking workshop. All children in year 5 took part in making healthy cakes. They started off by following basic hygiene – washing their hands before they handled food. They then worked in groups to add ingredients, grate carrots or beetroot into their cake and mix it all together. After that they were able to take their creations home to eat with their families.

 

 

Maths

In Maths, we have been learning about angles, coordinates and time. All children have been working hard on whatever area of learning they have been engaging in in their sets. Children have used their problem-solving skills to work in groups and solve challenges. This term children have also shown how much they have learnt by undertaking some assessments.
