Literacy

We started this half term exploring poetry: performing poems, enjoying tongue twisters, creating our own riddles and finally writing our own poems. We wrote our final piece on animals using the Curwen core skill of empathy, using plenty of techniques like similes, expanded noun phrases and alliteration to make the reader understand how it might feel to be an endangered animal.

 

 

Maths

This half-term, using concrete, the children have been using their skills to give change.  First, they learned how to identify the different coins and make totals of various amounts, counting in steps of 2, 5, 10, etc. The children also made totals using different combinations of coins. The practical aspects of these lessons added to the resilience of all children, in that they learned how to focus on calculating totals and counting their change.

Topic

The Ancient Egyptians are the focus of our learning in Topic lessons this term.  The endlessly fascinating topic has the children across Year 3 exploring, investigating and researching the various elements that contributed to the success of this ancient civilisation. We learnt that the civilization of Ancient Egypt began about 5,000 years ago and have ordered key events on a timeline. We have also had lots of fun learning about the River Nile, the Pyramids of Giza and the hierarchy of Ancient Egypt. We are all very excited to continue learning about Ancient Egypt after half term.
