Chick, Chick, Chickens

Once again, we have had the privilege of watching new life emerge when the chick eggs arrived and hatched before our eyes. Children observed the miracle of them pecking and struggling their way out, then recovering in the incubator before rapidly developing into lively, fluffy chicks that were soon able to feed and drink for themselves. The process enriched and brought the children’s science learning of animal topics to life, where they learnt about the care of animals, growth, life cycles, diets and habitats. This year we also considered the journey of eggs from farm to table, which was linked to a whole school homework project competition.
