Curwen Primary School

Autumn 2

Please enter an introduction for your blog post here.

Literacy

We had a mystery on our hands in Year 3! Someone stole our cupcakes and we became detectives to find out who the culprit was. After looking at all the clues, we found out that the person who stole our cupcakes was Mr. Potter and wrote our mystery story from this event. We used similes, expanded noun phrases and even inverted commas to make our story exciting.

Maths

Our mathematical journey this term took us into the exciting world of fractions! We successfully built on previous knowledge of finding fractions of shapes. The key learning was the introduction of non-unit fractions, where children learned to apply these more complex parts (like 2/3 or 3/4) to both diagrams and real-life amounts. Crucially, they started to master skills like comparing, ordering, and calculating simple like fractions, using hands-on resources and visual models to make the learning clear and memorable.

Year 3 Topic Website Update Autumn 2

In topic, we have been learning about The Stone Age. So far, we have learnt that the Stone Age people hunted animals for food and used them for various other things like clothing and jewellery. During the term, the children got to enjoy a Stone Age workshop where they got to learn about different things that the Stone Age people created and how they lived all those years ago. In addition, the children have looked at a number of different artefacts and have even used play dough to recreate a prehistoric monument.  It has been great fun and the children in year three have been able to explore this aspect of history in a unique and exciting way.
