Spring 1

Science:

This term the children have really enjoyed exploring and learning about forces. We visited the Science Museum where we investigated forces by going on different slides to experience friction as well as other activities.
Literacy

During Poetry week, Year 3 read some poems around the theme of Courage. We read poems by famous poets like Micheal Rosen, Joseph Coelho and Laura Mucha to inspire us. In class, we analysed the poems and found lots of rhyming words and repetition.
Year 3 thought about what courage means to us, what fears we have and how we can overcome them. We used all of these ideas and inspirations to write our own poem before performing them.
Maths

In Maths this half-term, Year 3 have been learning about shapes and angles. The children explored 2D & 3D shapes and their properties. They also learned about angles, focussing more specifically on right angles. To make learning more memorable, children created Right Angle Munchers and used them to identify right angles in 2D shapes. They, then went on to sort shapes based on various criteria, including right angles, quadrilaterals, regular/irregular shapes, etc.
