Summer 1

Summer 1 update
Topic
This term in Geography, we have been learning about Travelling around the UK by exploring maps and learning about the key features of maps. We have developed our understanding of map symbols and keys and discussed how these help us to read and interpret maps correctly. We also enjoyed looking at aerial-view maps and identifying familiar features from above. We have also created their own maps of the classroom using keys and symbols to represent different objects and areas.

Maths
This term in Maths, we have been developing our understanding of time and time intervals. We have been learning how many hours are in a day, the number of days in each month and how to tell the time using o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. We have also been looking at fractions of an amount and of shapes and identifying unit and non-unit fractions. We then recapped key learning from across the year, including using our resilience skills to solve challenging two-step word problems, using column addition and subtraction methods and applying multiplication, division and inverse operations.

Literacy
This term in Literacy, Year 2 has been reading the story ‘Beegu’ where we have explored empathy by discussing how characters may be feeling and used clues from the story and illustrations to support our ideas. We have also been answering questions about characters based on what they have read and using their inference skills to explain our thinking. In addition, we have worked hard on our reading comprehension skills by answering a variety of questions linked to both fiction and non-fiction texts.
