Summer 2

Topic:
Our recent trip to Colchester Zoo was a major highlight this term. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience, which perfectly reinforced their prior learning in Science regarding animals and humans. Map work was our primary focus in Geography, where pupils practiced reading, drawing, and identifying map features. It was particularly rewarding to see them enthusiastically apply these skills at the zoo to navigate the grounds and locate different exhibits. In Computing, the class learned about online safety and developed their coding skills, culminating in some fantastic independent projects using Scratch.

Maths:
In Mathematics, the children worked hard on applying their skills to word problems and practicing telling the time, which helped them prepare for our upcoming visit to Chalkwell Beach. Our data handling lessons also provided a wonderful opportunity for cross-year collaboration, as some pupils practiced tallying by surveying about their favourite sports.
Finally, in Computing, the class explored online safety and dived into coding—always a firm favourite. The children thoroughly enjoyed the creative freedom of designing and developing their very own independent projects using Scratch.

Literacy:

In Literacy, we have been exploring stories with meaningful morals while enhancing our writing through descriptive language, emotive vocabulary, adverbs, and expanded noun phrases. We have also been busy preparing for our Poetry Big Outcome by reading poems aloud with expression and actions. Drawing on familiar features like similes, rhyme, and rhythm, the children have even written their own brilliant poems about their favourite animals, inspired by our recent zoo visit.
As we reach the end of another fantastic year packed with learning and memorable experiences, everyone is feeling proud of their achievements and excited for the new adventures ahead in Year 3!
