Autumn 1

The children started the Reception year with enthusiasm and confidence. They have settled in well with their new friends and teachers. Our topic this term is ‘Who am I?’ and the children have been learning all themselves and their friends. The children have been learning new routines, school rules and talking about good choices. The children returned their special boxes which they completed in the summer. Through sharing these we have shared what is special to us and talked about the similarities and differences between ourselves. The children were able to listen to their peers and were curious to see what was inside the boxes.

The children have been exploring their classrooms and the different activities which their teachers have planned for them. We have started visiting the library and the children have enjoyed a range of stories. The children are able to recognise mark making tools and are beginning to show confidence in writing their name. We are beginning to embed their phonic sounds through our Read Write Inc. scheme.  The children also created their own self portrait carefully thinking about their skin tone and features on their face

In maths the children have been learning about size through the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  They are beginning to learn positional language, using the small world toys to position the character and objects. The children have been learning a range of number songs and beginning to form our numbers as well as recognising number in their environment. The children have been learning how to match the dots to play Dominoes with their peers.
