Autumn 2 Update

This term Year 1 have been  learning about Christianity.   We went to Christ Church in Plaistow to learn about the story of Baby Jesus. We were able to act out the nativity story. We completed different activities such as: making and decorating Christmas cards and dressing up as shepherds. We also tried some bread from Mary’s kitchen and had juice.

For World of Work Week, year 1 got to visit Plaistow and East Ham Fire Station. We were shown a room that had lots of different hazards. We had to work together to spot the hazards and say why they were dangerous.  . We got to go in the fire engine and use the hose.  The firefighter told us about all the different skill we need to develop to be a firefighter.

Literacy, Maths, Christmas Experience, World of Work Week and Year 1’s Big Outcome

What a busy Autumn Term we have had in year 1. In Topic we have been learning about The Local Area. We visited Epping Forest to identify human and physical features and we explored the grounds using maps.

 Literacy

In Literacy we have been writing fables. We learnt about the moral of a story and did character descriptions focussing on adjectives. We also took part in role play so we can remember the parts of the story. We then wrote our own versions of the story.

Maths

In maths we have been learning about the value money. We have been recognising and ordering coins and understanding the importance of learning about money.

Big Outcome

Our Big Outcome this term was our Monarchs Afternoon.  We performed a song about Kings and Queens in our costumes and we even sang the National Anthem to pay respect to the ruler of our country who is Queen Elizabeth II. After our performance, we went to our classes where our parents participated in a range of fun and exciting activities such as: shield and crown making, roleplaying as cooks and knights, ordering the monarchs of Great Britain on a timeline and writing about our trip to the Tower of London.
