Summer 1

Maths
In maths this term, we have been learning about time: we learnt to tell the time both on an analogue clock and a digital clock and solved time word problems. We have also recapped our basic skills using the four operations to help us solve single and multi-step reasoning questions. Finally, we recapped fractions and decimals, focusing on how they relate to one another as well as tackling more reasoning problems.

Literacy
This term in literacy we have begun our next whole class text. We have practiced a number of reading skills during this time; we have explored authorial intent, inferencing, retrieval and understanding new vocabulary. We have also been developing our creative writing skills by planning and writing the final writing assessment of the year- a narrative to describe the Amazon Rainforest! We have recapped and consolidated our understanding of using apostrophes, direct speech with inverted commas and literary features. We have been doing some drama, using thesauruses and carousel activities to support our learning.

Topic
This term, we dove back into our Geography learning by reviewing the Amazon River. We then used what we know about the features of a river to explore how the River Thames has changed from the Roman era to the modern day. To wrap up, we used Digimaps to study how people live and work along the river, and we even made some future predictions about what London will look like in 100 years!
