Topic

This term we had our fantastic trip to Colchester Zoo, where children had so much fun and were able to make links to what they had been previously learning in Science about animals including humans. In Geography we read, drew and compared maps and learnt about their features. It was lovely to see how the children were eager to read the zoo maps during the trip and locate the areas and animals they would like to see! In Computing we learnt about online safety and have been doing coding, which our pupils always love, particularly when they are able to create their own projects using Scratch.

Maths

We have been working hard on applying much of our maths learning in word problems and practising saying the time, having it linked with the preparation for the visit to Chalkwell Beach. When practising data handling, some of us used tallying by asking pupils in year 6 about their favourite sports, which was a lovely knowledge sharing experience.

Literacy

In Literacy we have explored books and stories with meaningful morals and improved our writing skills by using descriptive and emotive language, adverbs or expanded noun phrases. On our trip to Plaistow library, we read and borrowed books and got ready to join the summer reading challenge. We have also been preparing for the Poetry Big Outcome by exploring poetry and reading these out loud with expression and actions. By using features of poems previously learnt, such as similes, rhyme and rhythm, we have been writing our own poems about our favourite animals following our trip to the zoo.

We are at the end of another year filled with learning and experiences and now everyone is curious and excited about what comes next in Year 3!
