Autumn 2

Literacy
In Literacy, we have been learning about how to write a setting description based on ‘The Great Fire of London’ using exciting vocabulary. We have also been reading The Bear and the piano and discussing how the characters and setting changes throughout the story. Year 2 has been exploring verbs and adverbs to make sentences more interesting and using these skills in their setting descriptions.

Topic (Science)
In Science Year 2 have been exploring the properties of different materials through hands-on investigations and experiments. We have been learning to describe the properties of materials using key vocabulary like ‘stretchy, rigid, smooth, transparent and opaque’. We have also been sorting objects into man-made and natural materials and doing an experiment to check which materials (foil, plastic, cardboard and fabric) would be waterproof and suitable for building a bird box during Science afternoon.
Maths
In Maths, we have been developing our resilience skills when learning about multiplication and division. Year 2 has been using practical resources to make equal groups and sharing objects to help us solve maths stories. We have also been learning about wholes and parts and how two parts make a whole number using the bar model and cherry model. The key vocabulary we focused on was ‘grouping, sharing, equal, multiply, divide, whole and parts’.
