Spring 2

Year 3 Topic – Spring 2: Ancient Egypt
This half term in Topic, we’ve been exploring the Ancient Egyptian civilization. We discovered that the Rosetta Stone is an important relic that helps us to understand hieroglyphics and can be seen at the British Museum in London. We have also been learning about various Egyptian traditions, ceremonies and investigating their lives through their art work.

To help us understand the Egyptians better, we visited the British Museum where we saw lots of amazing statues, plaques and even mummies! This gave us lots of insight and information into how the ancient Egyptians lived and the things they believed in.

As part of our learning, we also watched a video about papyrus paper which is what the ancient Egyptians used to write on. The same plant that was used to make this paper, was also used to make various other items such as shoes and baskets.
It’s been great fun learning about the Egyptians and the children are very excited to represent Egypt for international week and carnival.
Year 3 Spring 2 Maths
This term, our Year 3 mathematicians have been busy transforming messy numbers into clear, colourful stories! We’ve been exploring different ways to display information, mastering the art of building pictograms and bar charts. Whether we were counting favourite snacks or tallying types of transport, the children have learned that a well-labelled graph with a clear scale is the best way to see exactly what’s going on at a glance.
Beyond just drawing, we’ve been putting on our detective hats to hunt for the "hidden" answers within our data. The children have moved from answering explicit questions—where the answer is right there on the page—to tackling trickier implicit challenges. By using their addition and subtraction skills, they’ve been working out the difference between categories and calculating new totals, proving they can not only read a graph but truly understand the story it tells.
Literacy Spring 2:
This term, the class explored a diverse range of literature, including The Secret Garden, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Our discussions centered on the complex themes of friendship, revenge, and forgiveness, with a particular focus on the dynamics between children and the influential adults in their lives. Most students have shown great enthusiasm for reading aloud to their peers, and it is rewarding to witness their significant progress in both oral fluency and self-assurance.
