Autumn 2

We have had such a wonderful term in Nursery! Our Autumn 2 theme has been “Ourselves” and the children have really enjoyed learning about what they look like, who is in their family, and the special people in their lives. We’ve also loved exploring how we all celebrate important events in different ways.
A big “Thank you!” to all the families who sent in celebration photos. The children have been so excited to share their pictures; talking about where they go, when they celebrate, who they celebrate with, what they do, whether they wear special clothes, and all the yummy food they enjoy!

The children are growing in confidence with their conversations, even if they sometimes hop from one topic to another. They are also beginning to remember and talk about their own special experiences, which has been lovely to see.

The children have settled into our routines and are confidently exploring their learning both indoors and outdoors. This half term, we also discovered the school library and met our lovely librarian, Ms Fuller. The children are very excited that they can choose a library book to take home every Tuesday and return it the following week.
We’ve been learning how to look after books with care—turning the pages gently and talking about the pictures together. Many children can now spot the difference between pictures and writing, which is a wonderful early reading skill. This learning is also supported through our self-registration each morning, as they recognise their picture and their name.
It was such a pleasure to welcome families to the children’s very first class assembly. Together, we explored Guru Nanak’s Birthday, Diwali, and the Festival of Lights. The children especially loved listening to the story of Rama and Sita, acting it out with puppets, and creating their own paper diva lamps and character puppets. It’s been a joyful, creative, and truly special way to celebrate these festivals together!

Nursery took part in Science Day, where the children explored a range of media and materials in the world around them. They investigated why it’s important to keep our teeth clean, experimented with making bubbles using straws, explored how ice feels as it melts, and watched a pretend volcano erupt.
