Summer 2

Literacy

This half term, we have been exploring the topic of Journeys to support our developing reading and writing skills, as well as to help us comprehend stories of adventure and exploration. We have written about our own experiences, such our favourite animals from the recent zoo  and farm trip and we used our sounds to write a letter to the zoo. We have also been consolidating our skills in blending and decoding, and are beginning to read decodable texts with increasing fluency.

Topic

This term, we have enjoyed talking about the Journeys we have been to and the vehicles we can use to go to our favourite destinations. We went to Hertfordshire Zoo and had the farm at school to look at different animals and talk about what they eat and where they live. The end of term was very exciting for us as we are getting ready to go to Year one and we started to explore the KS1 playground.

Maths

This term in maths, we have been using our problem-solving skills to explore and play different games—we even made our own board games! We have been recapping our addition and subtraction maths stories, ensuring we try mixed maths stories to challenge ourselves. While we started by using concrete objects, we are now beginning to show our working out pictorially by drawing pictures or dots. We’ve also been having learning about capacity using our language to describe the different containers.
