Summer 2
Topic
In science we have been learning about animals and classifying them in to groups. We looked at carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. To enhance our learning, we visited the Ark farm in. In DT we also made our own pop books about what we have learnt in science. The title of our book was ‘Animals’ and we wrote facts we learnt about. We also invited our parents to make some. The books included mechanisms like, sliders, flaps, springs and rotators.

Literacy
This term we became authors and wrote a traditional tale. We read the story of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and acted out the story. We then created story maps which helped us write our own version of the story. The skills we used were communication, resilience and strive for success!

Maths
In maths we have been learning about column addition and subtraction. We used dienes to work it out practically before moving on to representing them pictorially. We then wrote the maths stories in our books in columns. The skills we used were resilience and communication.

We then used our knowledge of measuring capacity to make squash and our knowledge of measuring mass to weigh the ingredients and make shortbread. We then linked this to Science in a lesson where we used our 5 senses to describe the biscuits, then we ate them! Delicious maths!
