Maths

In maths we have been learning all about fractions! We have learnt that to find a fraction of a shape: Every time you see… (the denominator), you should shade… (the numerator). We have also been learning about how to find fractions of a quantity using the Zoom, Zonk, Replace method. You zoom a whole number, zonk them into groups of the denominator, and replace each group with the numerator.

History: The Stone Age

In History this term Year 3 have been learning about changes that happened in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. To get a better understanding about life in prehistoric times we re-enacted a Stone Age story using Now Press Play. We learned that during this period people were using flint tools and built their houses with stone. We also learned that the first people were hunter-gatherers because they had to search for food by hunting and gathering berries. Eventually, prehistoric people started farming the land and domesticating wild animals and this brought about the formation of the first human settlements.

Literacy

We have continued the exploration of four different texts this half term: George’s Marvellous Medicine, The Magic Finger, The Iron Man and The Wind in the Willows. As our author focus, we have thoroughly enjoyed Roald Dahl’s fantastical characters and stories through role play, debates and various writing activities such as diary entries and persuasive letters. Some classes even made their own version of George’s marvellous medicine…just don’t tell grandma what we’ve put in it!
