Autumn 1

Topic

In topic so far this term we have focused on the topic: ‘Who am I?’ We have spent time discovering more about our heritage and culture to help us to understand a bit more about where we come from. We have also been able to develop a sense of identity and self-worth within these lessons. We have had time to reflect on the pandemic and talk about our thoughts and feelings. We have completed artwork based around ourselves and created a classroom display showing where we come from.

Literacy

In Literacy this term, we have written diaries based on our experiences of lockdown and our feelings during the pandemic. Since completing our diaries, we have started to focus on reading. Each class has a book that we read every day in Literacy (6B = The Hunger Games, 6I = I am Malala, 6K = Holes, 6U = The Recruit). When we have finished our books, we will produce a piece of writing based around our story.

Maths

In maths, we have been focusing on properties of number, which includes: factors, prime numbers, multiples, square numbers and sequencing. As well as this, we have had a big focus on the four operations (multiplication, division, addition and subtraction). We have been able to transfer our skills between subjects in maths, allowing us to become more fluent when answering basic arithmetic questions. We have also been able to apply our skills to real life situations.
