Business Trip at UBS

UBS offers a fantastic example of a world-class bank for Curwen students.

As a major employer in the world of finance, UBS offers a fantastic example of a world-class bank for the students to learn about. Volunteer Ben explained what finance was and what areas UBS worked in, and throughout the day helped the students understand how their work in school related to what really happened at UBS.

Year 3 students from Curwen Primary were strong contributors to their teams having just finished their Trash to Treasure project in school, when they made recycled Egyptian memorabilia.

The challenge they were set was called ‘Money Matters’. The students learnt all about risk, and how they could use it to their benefit as well as what downsides it could have. There was celebration and heartache as some investments paid back ten times over while others let them down. Throughout the day, they had to use good teamwork to make the right judgment, and help each other to solve some tough problems.

Throughout the day, they had to use good teamwork to make the right judgment, and help each other with some tough problems. All the teams prepared excellent presentations, impressing the “bank manager” with their interesting language, clear speech and confident approach to their investment report at the end of the day.

“Presenting at the end was really scary but in the end I really enjoyed it” – Student, Curwen Primary

“It was really nice to see the Year 3s working so well with the Year 5s” – Teacher, Curwen Primary
