Spring 1

This term our theme is “Stories for Us.” We have discovered stories and rhymes; we have looked at and identified writing and pictures in books and the environment; we have learnt new words and phrases, key words and new vocabulary such as front cover, back cover, pages, author, title etc.

Children have been very busy using their imagination and role-playing pretending to be their favourite characters: Goldilocks, a little pig, Little Red Riding Hood or the Big Bad Wolf. Everyone has huffed and puffed and sang ‘Run, run as fast as you can, you can’t catch me, I ‘m the Gingerbread Man.” Children have work together to build houses and settings for the characters and learnt that working as a team with our friends and trying our best is important and make us feel better.

We have been using our imaginative to cook our own porridge; pouring, stirring and eating to develop manipulation and control as well as exploring new textures and flavours. We have been learning about sizes ‘big’, ‘medium’ and ‘small’ and matched the characters to the same size bed, bowl chair and spoon. Children baked their own gingerbread. We used a kitchen scale find the correct numbers comparing amounts, saying ‘lots’, ‘more’ or ‘same’.

We look forward to next term to keep learning and discovering all new, different things!
