Autumn 2 Update

We have been learning about ‘Celebrations’. There are lots of different Celebrations which are special to us in Reception.

We went on a trip to West Ham Parish Church, we started off from school and walked all the way to the church. We learnt how to walk safely along the pavement. Some of our parents came on the trip with us and helped us walk safely.

At the church, we observed our surroundings and made observational drawings of the special objects in the church. We looked at the different shapes, colours and details. When back at school, we used our knowledge about special places to create some stained glass windows and hand prints about oursleves. We are going to create a reflective area in our Reception gazebo as our special place to reflect.

In Literacy, we have been developing our Communication and Language skills. We listened to the Christmas story and worked as a team to perform. We enjoyed singing, dancing and acting! We were confident to share all that we had learnt about the story. In class, we used the story to sequence, created our own story maps and used our sounds to write about all that we had learnt about Christianity.

In Maths, we have developed the skill to create addition maths stories using cups. We now know how to write simple maths stories using the addition and equals signs. We have also explored the names and features of 2D shapes through naming them, going on a shape hunt, sorting and creating some shape pictures.

Thank you for a successful first term in school. We are looking forward to the Spring term, where we will be learning lots more.
