Autumn 1

Topic

We have settled very well back into school life and we are enjoying our topic ‘Who Am I?’ We made some lovely art works showing what is special about us- we collaged images, symbols and photos and we even mixed our own colours to paint the background. We have been exploring people who fought for our rights; so far we have learnt about Rosa Parks, Mary Seacole, Nelson Mandela and Florence Nightingale. We took part in some drama activities to help us understand how these people felt and why they took the actions that they did. We also took part in a debate and made sure we presented our arguments in a respectful way, being tolerant of others’ opinions.

Literacy

In Literacy we shared our experiences of lockdown by showing and talking about our special boxes. This helped us to produce a diary entry recounting what we did and how we felt. We have also been exploring stories that link to our topic ‘Who Am I?’

Maths

During our first week back we created some large pictograms, tally charts and bar graphs to help us to get to know each other. We presented data showing our favourite colour, animal and food. This photo shows some of us working as a team to produce our bar graphs. As well as this we have been learning about place value, properties of number, addition and subtraction.
