World Book Day - Thursday 5.3.20 REMINDER

Please enter an introduction for your news story here.

Dear Parents and Carers,

As you may be aware, World Book Day 2020 is fast approaching. We want to take this opportunity to share with you some ideas of how we would like to celebrate at Curwen this year.

Breaking away from the tradition of previous years in which children have been encouraged to dress up as their favourite character, this year we are encouraging pupils to design and make a sandwich board (see picture above) of their favourite book, which they will then wear on World Book Day. This is an opportunity for our pupils to get creative, whilst also promoting a love of reading. For instance, the front might be a drawing, painting or collage representing the front cover of the book, and the back might contain a review and/or some favourite lines from the book.

We encourage you to get involved in this process with your child; however, we understand that this isn’t always possible. Therefore, after half term, we will be running drop-in sessions at lunchtimes, where pupils will have the opportunity to work on their designs at school.

Prizes will be awarded for the best sandwich board in each class (judged on design, effort and creativity), with an overall winner being chosen in each year group. Parents we encourage you to design, to make and wear your own sandwich board on the big day as well!

Please encourage your child to use the half term break to begin work on their sandwich boards, remembering to act sustainably by using any recycled boxes, cardboard and old magazines and catalogues for their designs.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to speak to myself or your child’s class teacher.

We look forward to celebrating World Book Day with you on Thursday 5th March 2020.

Yours sincerely,

Mark Smale

English Lead/Head of Year 6
