Summer Reading Challenge

To celebrate the fact Curwen Primary won the Newham Summer Reading Challenge, special  guests were invited to an assembly this week to mark the amazing achievement.  Councillor Joy Laguda, Councillor Aleen Alarice and Andrew De Her from Plaistow Library, congratulated those children who contributed to the award for which Curwen Primary School have now won two years in a row!

5 children were called up to represent all who were successful in completing the challenging (84 in total), which involved signing up to the local library and meeting the task of reading 6 different books! See list of winners below.

Every year thousands of children across the UK take part in the challenge; reading, sharing and listening to stories and having lots of fun along the way, whilst keeping up their reading skills and improving reading confidence.

The aim is to help children to expand their own reading by exploring similar themes, fantastic facts, characters and stories across the best contemporary children’s writing.

You can find out more about the reading challenge, play games and access useful resources on the Summer Reading Challenge website.

Further, if you would like more information on how to support your child with reading at home please check out our literacy page.
