Curwen are National Debate Champions!

During the last school year Curwen Primary School were one of the country’s top performing debate teams in the country and as such were invited to attend the Debate Mate national League Finals last week. The top ten schools allowed Year 6 and Year 7 students who competed before the lockdown to compete via zoom for the championship with school’s being paired up against one another. Having received the most amount of points out of all the teams who reached the final Curwen are the winners of the 2019-20 Debate Mate league and officially national champions alongside Blue Coat CoE Junior School from Walsall.

This is a result of the hard work put in by all of the children who attended the club during the 2019-20 school year. The six children who were selected to compete in the final were a part of the 2018-19 team who came third and missed out on a chance to compete in the grand final by a single point!

Alexis, Ama, Haleemah, Madusu, Maya and Rayan are all now attending different secondary schools across east London and Essex and will have the opportunity to speak about their success during the launch of this year’s competition next month. They are all exceptionally smart and dedicated students with bright futures ahead of them and we look forward to hearing about how they get on in the future.

Meanwhile the school is looking forward to getting started with this year’s competition with our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils. If they show the same level of commitment and enthusiasm as last year’s team we are guaranteed to have another successful year!
